The Never-Ending Pursuit
“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.” – Philippians 3:12
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” – Luke 9:23
The pursuit of transformation is a gradual process. It’s a journey that you’ll begin but never finish.
That may sound discouraging, but it’s actually a good thing. The goal isn’t to arrive at one place. Instead, our objective should be continued growth and transformation as we strive to follow Jesus’ example each day.
In the New Testament, Jesus’ followers are usually called “disciples.” The word “disciple” comes from the Greek word “mathetes,” which means “learner.” In the Greco-Roman world, disciples sought to fully implement the lifestyle and practices of their teachers. Quite literally, they would model each aspect of their lives after what their teachers embodied.
The calling to follow in Jesus’ example is the same for us today. As disciples, we should constantly seek to align our thoughts, attitudes, and actions with what Jesus teaches. We won’t always be perfect, but you’ll be amazed at the transformation that becomes possible through the presence of the Holy Spirit in your lives.
At Chick-Fil-A, we don’t just enjoy serving delicious food. We also care deeply about impacting our communities in a positive way and touching lives along the way. That’s why we’ve created “The Pursuit” blog – we want to help you grow personally and professionally as you grow in your faith and learn how to practically follow Jesus’ commandment to love God and love others (see Matthew 22:34-40).
We’ll release a new blog post each Wednesday. Some weeks we’ll discuss teachings and stories from Scripture and how they apply to our everyday lives. Other weeks we’ll dig into key concepts and principles on leadership, team development, and personal improvement.
As you get ready to join us on the journey, I encourage you to reflect on the following question throughout the next week: “Who am I becoming?”
Think about your current values, habits, goals, and motivations. Each of these components plays a critical role in your overall development. If you want to make meaningful changes in your life, it starts with casting a compelling vision for the future and creating the necessary steps to help you get from where you are to where you want to go.
We hope that the content you read in this blog will be an inspiration and an encouragement as you pursue a better future. We can’t wait to partner with you on your journey, and we look forward to walking alongside you each step of the way.
